Hiiii! In 24 hours’ I will be checked in and hanging out at Adelaide Airport, ready to travel to New Yawwwk!
I’m excited but also a bit nervous; I am meeting some of my extended family and I am not entirely sure how this will go. Logically, I think it will be just fine but sometimes I can worry!
Anyhow, as promised a lil while back, my packing tips! These are applicable to anyone, regardless of whether or not you wear makeup!
(I’ve no idea why I want to write this in the third person; I think I’ve had way too many coffees! Apologies for photo quality; DSLR is charging.)
Sarah has travelled to a variety of places around Australia and the world, including Laos, Cambodia, Germany and Hong Kong. So she has these experiences to guide her in *drumroll please*
OPERATION PACK BAG!
Tip 1 – pack for your destination. Research the weather for where you will be visiting; make sure you have an understanding of what will and won’t be available there. If you are traveling somewhere that stocks a lot of what you need, and it’s cheaper there, why not buy it when you arrive? Also, take into consideration the activities you will be doing there – if you aren’t going to be hiking there is no need for hiking boots, for example.
Tip 2 – pack light, unless you are staying in only one – two spots. If you are staying put somewhere, the amount you pack can be less of an issue, as you only have to transport your stuff twice (i.e. airport –> accommodation and back).
Tip 3 – check your airline’s luggage and weight restrictions BEFORE you start packing, and certainly before you decide to go out and buy a new suitcase! (I almost got caught out here; luckily my new case fits the restrictions within a cm or so!)
Tip 4 – GLAD/snaplock bags are awesome! You can group items in there so they are easy to find at a glance and they can’t leak through your luggage (e.g. body lotions, makeup, etc).
Tip 5 – if you are bringing makeup with you that has a sifter component, apply sticky tape to seal the sifter, then put the lid back on. This will save you from the horrid experience of opening an item later and finding out that most of it has gone into the lid – and then all over the floor!
Tip 6 – Check, check, and check again – that you have not forgotten any of your phone/appliance/etc chargers. You can usually buy one at your destination but you may not be in the mood to especially if you need to use your toothbrush after a 20 hour flight!
Tip 7 – at the end of the day, less really is more. You want to use any spare space in your bags later, for stuff that you buy!
PS. A few fellow bloggers are or have also been travelling lately and have also got some great tips to share with you. These include Tine at Beautyholics Anonymous and Kate at Seduced by Beauty. Worth checking out!
