Blogging Burnout 101 – Part 2 – Bloggers’ advice

Hi everyone! How is your week going? :) My Thursday blog post will not be appearing until Saturday, as I will be away the next few days.

Do you remember my recent post about the “3Fs” and my attempts to focus on feeding my mind, body, and spirit in 2013? Well, as promised, I am bringing you a wellbeing related post tonight! Before I get into that, however, I guess you’d like to hear how I’m going with my 3Fs?

It’s hard! (LOL! No surprises huh?!) Feeding my mind is not too hard, as I have a lot of hobbies, but the body has been a challenge and spirtuality sadly neglected! I am making progress on getting to bed earlier, and have decided to (and am sticking well to!) an at home exercise program (I’ve come to the realisation that I don’t enjoy gyms when they are busy and crowded – and mine now is, all the time! :( ), but snacking is particularly tricky, particularly when I’ve had a challenging day. I am forcing myself to be more observant of my food cravings and reminding myself that there is always that “choice” point – to buy the food/drink (coffee frappe, anyone?! ;) ), to consume the food/drink, and then to finish the food/drink.  I can stop myself at any of those points, but hopefully at the first choice point!

I have a few spirituality type books on my iPad that I am going to start reading when I’m away, as the evenings are quiet! (I’m away for work.) In the sprit section I also need to take a good look at some of my social connections in my day to day life… There has been some stuff staring me in the face for a while that I haven’t wanted to confront, but times are a changin’!

Here’s another test of your memory….

Can you remember that “Blogging Burnout 101″ post that I wrote back in October? (That’s OK, here’s the link ! ;) )

Well, shortly after I wrote that post, I hosted a Twitter chat (you can follow me at @beautstoryblog) about blogging burnout. (This was part of the Aussie #bbloggersoz chat group. We haven’t got any chats planned for the next few weeks so if you are a beauty or fashion blogger and are keen to host, head to the Facebook group here!) It was a great discussion and I think all who participated learnt a lot from each other! :)

The bloggers involved gave me permission to share some of their tweets on this topic, and here is a selection! Each tweet is credited via the particular blogger’s Twitter handle (name). I hope that you find their comments just as helpful and thought provoking as I did!

@breathebeautyy Never force a post if you aren’t feeling it. Inspiration will come eventually if you enjoy it.

@tinnipoo I treat blogging as a hobby. I write what I want and when I want. My real life commitments will always take priority.

@ThruBeautyEyes … Blogging shouldn’t be a “chore” – I take a break when I’m burnt out/busy with my “real life”.

@CLovevintage Blog what you love and you’ll love what you blog.

@makeuptipsblogg Read over your old posts are [and] realise how much you’ve improved and remember any blog accomplishments!

@TheBDispensary I tell them [the blogger going through burnout] why I read and love their blog. We all at some point need to be reassured we’re not alone and people love our work!

@michaelaarghh The inspiration will come back to you, if you blog because you love it. Hang in there, we all go through it!

@shelld1979 Just remember there are many other things in the world other than being the best or the most popular blogger.

@BeautySwatch Focus on what energises you about blogging, and tune out everything else. = AND =  As I always tell myself, no one out there is going to suffer from a delayed blog post.

@MadameBFatale If it’s really bothering you step back and figure out why. There’s no point forcing yourself to do it, it will show.

What do you think? I think many of these statements can be applied to a range of endeavours, not just blogging!

Yep, I agree that the advice given can be applied to life I general. When you feel your life isn’t going anywhere or the way you want to, step back take a look and reassess. Look at what you’ve accomplished in life, no matter how small, you think it is and life becomes more enjoyable when you’re doing things you enjoy doing. See? They do apply. ;)

Hi Norlin, thanks for stopping by! :) I agree! :) Perspective is so important. I’m wondering if perhaps the chats should move to monthly as the schedule looks pretty empty for #bbloggersoz at the moment?

I think it’s easy to get blogger burnout, especially when your real life is so hectic. As much as you love blogging, there’s a lot of effort that actually goes into it which sometimes makes it feel like a chore.

I guess sometimes it can be frustrating when your blog seems to just stall when it comes to comments and views. It’s hard to keep the momentum when you feel like no one will care if you post or not.

Hi Amy, thanks for coming by! You’re right in that a lot of effort does go in to blog posts and the general running of a blog, I think! Photos take up the most time for me, usually.

I think there was a #bbloggersoz chat on reader engagement you might want to search the hashtag. Alternatively I reckon Tine at Beautyholics Anonymous may’ve written something about that as part of her Bloggie Wednesdays, at one point or another.

For me I find that consistency in posting helps with engagement and views, people know when I’ll usually post (there’s no Thurs post this week guys!) so they know when to visit. If there’s new content on a regular basis people keep coming back, but then I don’t know how often you post?

How appropriate that I’m reading this post after spending (almost) all of my Monday in a bloody blogging rut. I second one of the tweets very much – reading over past blog posts that you’re excited about can help get the literary juices flowing. Alternatively, taking a nice long mental break is really helpful as well. Keep up the great work, Sarah!

Hi Emi I’m glad this is helpful to you. In this post I have hopefully linked back to a more detailed post I wrote on this topic last year. :)

I think everyone goes through a rut at some stage and it’s so frustrating when it happens! Often us bloggers are a driven lot and like to be producing tip top content all the time, which can put a bit of pressure on. I try to focus on writing things that I want to write about and this helps me a lot!

      Good luck! :)

Ughh, I’ve been trying to take better care of myself this year. The ‘Calorific’ app on my phone is really making me think about what I put into my mouth. Snacking is a horrible habit for me.

Another interesting look at blogging burn outs. It’s great to get so many different perspectives.

Hi Bethany oh I haven’t heard of that app, I’ll have to check it out! :)

Thanks; I found it to have been a really interesting Twitter chat!

I’ve had such a tough time with blogging lately! Mostly it’s been finding the time. It’s such hard work and I have to remind myself why I do it and that I can take a break. Thanks for reminding me of the tips from Bloggeroz x
