As I have talked about in an earlier post, the 2nd annual Adelaide Beauty Conference (ABC or #ABC) is almost upon us! Registrations have now closed but the official site is here if you would like to read more. This year’s theme is Australian born and bred: Supporting our local beauty industry.
I was very excited to hear that my application for attendance at the conference was accepted!
*Cue funky dancing on tables!* Limited places were available this year so I count myself lucky. There’s a button to add to my blog to say “Hey I’m attending!” but I’m having a bit of trouble with that on the iPad, which is what I using to type this (yep I’m writing this while in Brisbane because there is a tight deadline for this post which I’ll explain in a sec!).
As part of the conference a series of competitions are being run. One of the biggest is about the naming of ABC’s official mascot, who you can check out here, and a comic strip has been created for her and to introduce the competition as follows (image property of adelaidebeautyconference.com):
To enter I need to 1) come up with a name for her (of course!), 2) create a back story about her, and 3) put it all together into a blog post published on my blog. Entries close soon and I have decided I’ll give it a go!
So, here’s my entry…

Who is the ABC Mascot?
She is Belle, which is the French word for beautiful!
Belle is a young lady who has grown up in the city of Adelaide, South Australia. She likes Adelaide but really it is a small town; she is keen to spread her wings! To give her life some balance, she wanted to develop a hobby that she can participate in anywhere, anytime, and which is compatible with her love of skin care and makeup! In particular she loves Australian brands and Australian made products, as they are not tested on animals and are typically good quality.
One day she was researching a product that she was planning to buy on the Internet. She discovered a very useful review by a beauty blogger from Adelaide. It inspired Belle to try her hand at beauty blogging; she thought “if they can do it, why can’t I?!”
Months passed and Belle found that she had discovered a hobby which is perfect for her… She began to read more blogs, from Australia and beyond, and got to know a lot of nice people. This gave her a sense of connection with others around the world which she loved; she can spread her wings via the net!
Through her networking and participation in the beauty blogging community, she learnt of the #ABBM (Adelaide Beauty Bloggers Meetups). Belle was a bit unsure of what to expect with the meetups – what would the other bloggers be like? Sure, she’d been reading their blogs, but to her that was not the same as meeting them in person. At the same time, she knew that if she didn’t attend a meet she would always wonder what these bloggers are really like! So, one cloudy day, Belle attended her first #ABBM. She needn’t have worried; everyone was friendly and welcoming!
Since then Belle has continued to blog and be a part of #ABBM. In recognition of her positive attitude she was nominated as the official mascot of the Adelaide Beauty Conference. Please welcome Belle!

What do you think of my story about “Belle”? I’m going to be up against tough competition so I’ll let you know how the competition progresses! When I’m home I’ll tell you more about my Brisbane trip.

I’m not quite ready to go to something like this yet. I’d feel like a fraud or something. xD But I just wanted to say that your mascot is very relate-able. I hope you do well. ^^

Hi Bethany, thanks for the feedback on my mascot idea!
That’s ok about the conference; you still may wish to come to an #ABBM catch up sometime! Perhaps stay tuned for my report (I mean, post!
) about how the conference goes you will then get to meet most of us “virtually” lol so you can get an idea of who the girls are!
UPDATE – the winner of the mascot competition was Neena! Congratulations! X
