Good evening everyone!
I like to go to the movies as often as I can. The last film I saw was “Prometheus” and… well… it didn’t really blow my socks off but then again I’m picky about my sci-fi!
Why am I writing about this?
The folks at Hopscotch Films have generously given me THREE double passes to a movie which opens on July 12 Australia wide.
The film is “Hysteria” and stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rupert Everett. It promises to be an interesting film as it is a historical comedy with a psychological theme. On the back of each double pass there is more information about the film – I’ve quoted directly from that as they explain it way better than I can!
Based on true events, in 1880 London, the handsome young Dr Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy), a believer in modern medical theories, lands a position as the assistant to society doctor Robert Dalrymple. Dalrymple is a specialist in the female ailment “hysteria” – a catch-all diagnosis that seems to be affecting half of England’s women! Their treatment involves a literal hands-on method, and demand becomes so great that Dalrymple and Mortimer cannot keep up with ‘curing’ women. To keep Mortimer working, Dalrymple promises him his business, and marriage to his beautiful young daughter. But when Mortimer falls for Dalrymple’s older and unconventional daughter Charlotte (Maggie Gyllenhaal), his future looks doubtful. In desperation, he invents a machine that will at least solve his medical challenges – the world’s first vibrator. In the delightful spirit of Calendar Girls, Hysteria takes a rather remarkable and daring true story and turns it into a gentle, warm-hearted comedy.
The tagline for this movie had me laughing from the start – “finding a cure never felt so good”! So don’t pass this opportunity up!
How can you score a double pass? You must be an Australian resident as the passes are only valid in Australian cinemas.
What do you have to do? Very easy! Just be one of the first THREE people to comment on this post with the name of the Australian State/Territory you reside in (abbreviation is fine – e.g. if in Victoria “VIC” is a-ok) and you are a winner!
I will contact the three winners via email and they will have 24 hours to respond to my email; if they do not respond within that time I will contact those who have responded fourth, fifth, sixth, etc until I have 3 winners (so if you are not one of the first three, still worth commenting just in case I can’t successfully contact one or more of the first three!).
Hop to it!
PS. The official website for the film is over here: http://www.sonyclassics.com/hysteria/
