Hello again! What’s that, Sarah posting twice in one evening?! Yep I’m being industrious! (I also enjoy having the time to write when I get the chance, which I guess makes sense as I wouldn’t be blogging otherwise right?
)
In Australia we celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May, which is the 13th May this year! Different families celebrate in different ways, however if your Mum is into beauty I noted that Terry White Chemists* (www.terrywhitechemists.com.au) have some very nice gift packs, including Shiseido skin care packs which contain a nice tote bag as well as swag of products:

This is the White Lucent gift set; regardless of set the tote is the same. Shiseido reportedly test on animals so you may want to keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase. Image: lasoo.com.au

I usually will get my Mum some nice flowers for Mother’s Day. Did you know that in Australia chrysanthemums are the flower typically given on this day? My Japanese teacher said she had trouble understanding this as in Japanese culture they are seen at funerals, usually white ones. Apparently it is the same in parts of Europe too.

I am also planning to bake my Mum and Grandma some strawberry cupcakes! Using good ol’ Betty Crocker:

On the day, the family including my Mum will visit my grandparents for an afternoon tea. Later that day, Mum and I also plan to test out a giveaway prize I recently won – thank you so much Hannah from Beauty Down Under! – which is a DIY pecan face scrub. Recipe, review and photos to come.
For those of you celebrating Mother’s Day this coming weekend, I wish you a great time! It can be a sad day for those without their Mum or Grandma, so I acknowledge that too. I’m lucky that I still have my Mum and one of my Grandmas.
Love you Mum and Gran! xxx
*I have no affiliation with Terry White Chemists.

Do you celebrate Mother’s Day? If so, when? Are there any special flowers or traditions on the day for your family?

Same for my culture – don't give chrysanthemums, people will get horribly offended as it is the flower used to honour the dead!

Yes I find it interesting how things can have such different meanings in different cultures! I am guessing Celeste that you are referring to Chinese culture, or are you referring to Chinese-Malaysian culture or Malaysian culture?
Yeah chinese culture.
Culture as a whole in malaysia is a mish mash. There's no 'malaysian culture' per say. But rather, it's chinese, indian or malay. In the one country. Chinese/Malaysian is known as Baba Nyonya culture. Haha, bit confusing.
My recent post Bloggers are human too: In which Celeste fails at Nail Art.
Ah! That’s interesting!
My aunt is from Malaysia (though I don’t think she’s lived there for at least 20 yrs) and also identifies herself as Chinese – I’ve never heard her refer to a “Malaysian” culture as such either hence I was curious!
Your latest post looks interesting (as per Comment Luv!) – going to check it out now!
My mum is working on sunday so i won't get to see her. I think i might steal your idea and bake her some cupcakes and leave them as a surprise when she gets home. Thanks for the lovely idea. And no i don't do chrysanthemum's either.

That\’s a shame your Mum has to work!
Yes why not bake some cakes?
I think baking is a nice gesture for many occasions!
